The price of a fireplace is by far the most common question from our customers and from people who are only thinking about buying a fireplace or stove.
Answering it is not difficult — a manager or a representative in your region will give you the current price for any model. But right after "How much does a fireplace cost?" comes another question: "Why is the price what it is?"
What does the price of a fireplace consist of?
Like any product, fireplace inserts and stoves are closely tied to the general economic picture of the country and the world. Any fluctuation in the economy is immediately reflected in prices: they go down or up. That is because the final price of an insert or a stove is influenced by many factors that we, as fireplace manufacturers, have to take into account.
Which factors shape the prices of fireplace inserts and stoves?
1. The cost of raw materials.
A fireplace insert or stove is a product assembled from many parts and materials: steel, cast iron, heat-resistant glass, sealing cords, fireclay and so on. All of these elements are purchased separately before they become a source of heat in your home.
2. Paying for production.
But before all these materials become a fireplace, they have to be put together. That is the work of designers, engineers and production staff — and, of course, it is not free.
3. Labour.
A whole team of people works on creating a fireplace insert or stove and then on selling it, advertising it, matching it to each buyer, delivering it and installing it.
4. Logistics.
Delivering materials to the factory, transporting finished stoves and fireplaces to the dealers, the cost of transport, fuel and drivers — all of this also forms the price of a fireplace.
5. Other costs.
Legal services, marketing materials, advertising, catalogues, financial reporting and so on.
These are only the main factors that shape the prices of fireplace inserts and stoves and make them rise or fall.
Why does the same insert cost more than another one?
Within one manufacturer the difference usually comes down to a few concrete things:
- The size of the firebox and the output. A larger insert means more steel, more fireclay and a larger pane of glass.
- The geometry of the glass. A corner insert with glass on two sides is more complex to build than a straight one.
- The door mechanism. A model with a guillotine door costs more than a comparable one with a side-opening door — that is the price of the guides, the counterweights and the closing-assistance system.
- The type of appliance. A freestanding steel stove needs no surround at all, while an insert has to be built in — so the two are not directly comparable on price alone.
What else should be included in the budget besides the insert?
This is the point buyers most often miss. The appliance itself is only part of the total. A realistic budget also includes:
- the chimney — pipes, elbows, tees, inspection and condensate elements, fixings;
- the ventilation grilles, whose area is calculated from the output of the insert;
- the surround and its finish, or a decorative frame if you are not building a full surround;
- installation by a qualified team;
- and, optionally, fireplace automation and accessories.
