A SAVEN steel insert is a Ukrainian product that we, as manufacturers, are proud of and into which we have put all our knowledge, experience and European practice. We did not invent anything new. We simply combined the best achievements of the fireplace industry into one final product and added our own vision of what an ideal wood-burning fireplace should be.
Four rules behind the production of SAVEN inserts
A modern fireplace insert means quality materials and up-to-date production technology that deliver high efficiency and full output. It also means a practical design that suits any interior scheme. And above all, a wood-burning insert must be safe and reliable.
So we approached the production of SAVEN steel inserts guided by four basic rules:
- apply modern European technology in fireplace manufacturing;
- add our own unique developments that make the insert distinctive and improve its function;
- use only quality materials certified in the EU;
- create a safe, reliable construction with a versatile design.
Rule 1. What production technology is used?
To produce our own steel inserts we studied the experience of modern European technology, identifying the main trends and requirements for solid-fuel fireplaces. As a result, SAVEN inserts received a double deflector, a fireclay lining, the option of bottom or rear air connection and, most importantly, their foundation — hot-rolled carbon low-alloy boiler steel.

Low-alloy steel as the basis of SAVEN inserts
In the manufacture of fireplace inserts we use hot-rolled carbon low-alloy boiler sheet steel of Ukrainian production. In this material the content of harmful impurities is reduced to improve quality, and alloying additives are used to increase uniformity, reducing grain size and improving thermal stability. Depending on the thermal load, the parts of the insert are made of low-alloy steel from 3 to 5 millimetres thick.
The key advantages of this segment of steels are high strength and toughness, weldability and minimal dimensional tolerances.
High efficiency through an effective flue-gas path
At the development and manufacturing stage of SAVEN steel inserts we achieved a high efficiency figure. This was possible thanks to a highly effective flue-gas removal design: on their way out of the firebox the gases travel a long path to the chimney and along the way transfer as much heat as possible to the room through the body of the fireplace.
A double deflector to increase efficiency
Replacing the damper with a deflector is in line with European standards. The function of a deflector is to change the direction of the airflow and the flue gases and to reflect heat back into the chamber, raising the combustion temperature. Both the design of the deflector and the number of them matter for efficient operation.
In SAVEN inserts we fitted a double deflector, which relieves the thermal load on the firebox while increasing its efficiency. Heating is more even, because the path of the flue gases is longer. That improves heat transfer through the steel elements of the smoke collector and the walls of the insert.
Bottom and rear air connection for simple installation
SAVEN steel inserts allow the air supply to be connected either from below the insert or from behind. This simplifies installation and operation and does not restrict the buyer's choice of where to place the appliance.
Compatibility with heat recovery systems
The airtightness of SAVEN inserts allows them to be used in premises fitted with a heat recovery system. A recuperator helps to save energy, since it keeps heat in the warmed space and distributes it around the room, allowing higher overall efficiency.
The "clean glass" system for easy care
In SAVEN inserts air is directed along the glass. This forms an air curtain that protects the pane from misting, soot and dirt and makes looking after the fireplace much simpler.
Rule 2. What are SAVEN's own developments?
To the European technology we added several unique developments of our own in order to improve the quality of SAVEN inserts. Behind them lies the painstaking work of dozens of engineers, developers, designers and craftspeople.
A special leg design for fitting SAVEN grilles
We developed our own leg construction for the insert, which makes installation quick and easy and works well together with SAVEN fireplace grilles.
An extra-strong door profile for additional sealing
Our particular pride is the extra-strong door profile patented by SAVEN. It resists bending and twisting under high temperatures, does not expand and does not deform. This property is especially important in corner fireplaces, where the glass sits on two perpendicular sides.
Smooth, easy flame control with a single regulator
To make using a SAVEN insert simple, clear and safe, we fitted just one highly sensitive and precise regulator, with which the air supply to the firebox — and therefore the intensity of the flame — can be adjusted smoothly and easily.
Rule 3. Which materials are used?
In manufacturing SAVEN steel inserts we made a firm decision: to use only quality materials certified in the EU. Our inserts bring together an almost international team: fireclay from the Czech Republic, heat-resistant glass from Germany, paint from Belgium and Ukrainian steel.
Fireclay with a proprietary design for long heat output
Lining with thick protective Czech fireclay boards of SAVEN's own design does not merely complement the steel insert — it improves its main function, the safe heating of the room. Fireclay withstands temperatures up to +1200°C and, importantly, has increased resistance to temperature swings. It absorbs heat and holds it inside for a long period, extending the heat output of the insert.
Environmentally safe paint that gives off no smoke or smell
The paint SAVEN uses for its steel inserts is resistant to high temperatures, environmentally safe and gives off no smoke during firing, because it goes through the crystallisation process during baking at the production stage rather than in the room where the insert is installed.
German Schott Robax glass for a safe view of the fire
In SAVEN steel inserts we use a proven, high-quality material — heat-resistant glass from the German manufacturer Schott Robax. It is made of transparent glass ceramic 4 mm thick, which lets it withstand temperatures up to 760°C. The airtight doors with Robax glass play a part not only in containing fire and smoke but also in distributing the air correctly inside the combustion chamber.
Rule 4. Safety and reliability
The main rule for every fireplace manufacturer is safety. The construction of a solid-fuel fireplace must be airtight, tight-fitting and strong. To achieve maximum sealing, the construction of SAVEN inserts is rigid and tight, and every element is made with precision.
An airtight body and sealing cords
Sealing is a critically important factor for safe operation. The steel body is welded with sealed seams. For additional safety, all openings, spigots and other elements are sealed with special graphite fireplace cords that withstand high temperatures.
Simple installation and care
The compact dimensions and weight of steel inserts allow them to be installed almost anywhere convenient, and at any stage of a renovation. Steel inserts are also undemanding in care: the wood burns efficiently, so little ash forms and it needs removing less often.
